Easy DIY Chicken Coop Plans
If you are looking for chicken coop plans that are easy to build, than you come to the right place. I created a list of plans that are easy to build and the ones that I actually used to create my coops. I own chickens in my backyard and I think it is one of the most amazing things. I got started back in 2007 when, raising chickens was still a new thing in urban areas. Here are three tips to look for when you choose plans for a chicken coop.
How to Pick the Right Chicken Coop Plans
Before you decided on a coop, you will need to know how many chickens you will want to get. The more chickens you have the bigger the coop. Having a coop that is to small will cause chickens to fight, which will lead to infections that can kill your flock. You will need about 2 feet per chicken, so if you have 4 chickens you will want a coop that is 8 square feet. You will also want a run, so your chickens have room to spread their wings.
You will also want to place chicken wire under the coop, to prevent any animals from digging their way into the coop. I have had this happen before and I learned my lesson from it. Nothing is worse than seeing your chickens being taken by a fox. If the chicken coop plans don’t have information about how to place chicken wire, don’t worry it is not that hard. You may be even to find a YouTube video on how to place chicken wire.
You can find free or paid chicken coops plans online. The free ones are good, but sometimes they do have missing information. I usually stick with paid ones, which you can get from amazon or even a book store. Just ask someone, where the books on backyard chickens are and you will usually find a couple books on how to build a coop. I actually bought my coop plans from the book store and they turned out pretty nice. I will be sure to post some pictures of them below so you can get an idea of the types of coops that you can build.
